Building a Greener Future
Partnering with the Global Returns Project to help clients create lasting impact through effective environmental philanthropy.
Nestbox Financial Planning is proud to partner with the Global Returns Project (GRP), a UK charity helping our clients protect our planet by supporting high-impact climate and nature charities. Advised by leading environmental scientists, GRP selects and monitors a diverse portfolio of charities that deliver measurable impact – often beyond what sustainable investments alone can achieve. This unique, free service is available to donors at any level, and every donor receives detailed six-monthly impact reports.
Sustainable investing is vital. But many of the most important solutions for our planet do not deliver financial returns. Projects that enforce environmental law, combat deforestation and defend ocean ecosystems fall beyond the reach of even high-quality sustainable funds – they rely on philanthropy for the funding they need. Plus, giving to climate and nature charities safeguards any of your other charitable activities. In the UK, 75% of people give to charity every month – more than any other European country. But whether you care about health, education or human rights, all the causes we hold dear depend on a stable and healthy planet.
Maximising your impact.
Initial Screening: Charities are first screened for size and governance to ensure they are robust and capable of processing significant funds. These are the "blue-chip equivalent" charities of the environmental world.
Detailed Assessment: Selected charities are scored based on their impact, scalability, co-benefits, and the networks they engage with. Only the top performers in each sector— whether it's marine conservation or reforestation—are admitted to the portfolio.
Continuous Evaluation: GRP reassesses its portfolio every six months. This ensures your donations are always directed to the most effective charities. If a charity underperforms, it is replaced by one that delivers better results.
Simple, transparent and flexible
No deductions: Donations are made directly to GRP, which distributes 100% to your selected charities, with no deductions. GRP’s core costs as a charity are funded completely separately by its Trustees and a number of charitable trusts, foundations and individuals.
Flexibility: A standard donation is split equally between GRP’s recommended charities. Donors can choose to support one or a few specific charities by notifying GRP in advance.
Impact Reporting: Every six months, donors receive impact reports detailing the tangible impact of your giving and the measurable progress made by the charities
Get involved: GRP hosts regular in-person events and webinars to meet the charities and hear from world-class environmental experts.

Speak with us to explore how GRP aligns with your sustainability goals, philanthropic values, and legacy planning. Then decide:
1. Whether to fund all or a selection of GRP’s charities.
2. Whether to set up a regular donation or make a one-off contribution.
3. How much to contribute. Donors often give a proportion of net worth (e.g. 0.25-1%) annually, but decide what works best for you.
